Filmmaker's Dream Blog

Nuit Blanche is a gorgeous film that has absolutely no dialogue but is beautifully edited and holds some awesome visual effects! It was a finalist in last year's 2011 Vimeo Video Awards. Check it out for January's inspirational video of the month!

The 3D films have really taken over these last few years, and what better way to watch your favorite Disney classics in 3D! Disney has decided to release four hits in 3D for this year and the beginning of 2013. Lion King was re-released on September 16th 2011 for two weeks and brought in over $80 million dollars. Many critics have stated how Disney's 'Up' brought in over $730 million, but I think the time duration it was released, the quick notice of the release date, and the fact that almost the entire world has already seen it over the past 17 years says a lot. (Sniderman 2011) Minimal investments were put into the film since it was already made, so this is a quick way to make a large amount of money.
Disney plans to release ‘Beauty and the Beast’ on January 31, 2012. ‘Finding Nemo’ will be released on September 14, 2012, Monsters Inc. on January 18, 2013, and everyone's favorite, ‘The Little Mermaid’ will be released on September 13, 2013. I think it was an excellent idea to bring back these Disney classics in 3D. It will give families the opportunities to reconnect and it is a wise financial investment since these movies have already been established as successful films.
Many cynics have said this is just a way for Disney to take more money out of everyone’s pockets. Disney is remaining positive and doing well as a company to find a smart way to please their loyal audience as well as create more revenue. After the many royalties Disney holds, amusement parks, movies, retail stores, toys, and more, is re-releasing a few Disney favorites in 3D a real desperate measure to get more money? I strongly disagree with the statements made by the people against this decision.  What do you think of Disney's decision to release some Disney hits in 3D?
